# Order API (order.ds) Overview

## What is the Forter Order API?

Forter's Order API is used at checkout to receive Forter’s real-time fraud decision of whether to approve or decline an order. The request should be sent after receiving the authorization response from the payment gateway and before making the request to the payment gateway to capture the funds. The decision will be received at the time of the purchase, so that the customer is never even aware that they were evaluated - contributing to a friction-free checkout experience. The response to the request will be our decision.

## Pre-Auth vs Post-Auth Flow

If you are planning to integrate Forter **PRIOR** to calling your payment gateway in the checkout flow, please review the pre-auth documentation included in this section and make the necessary adjustments based on your SFCC store version. If you are planning to integrate Forter AFTER receiving authorization from your payment gateway, please review the post-auth documentation.
