# Overview

Forter’s **Chargeback Recovery** solution helps merchants automate and streamline the chargeback dispute process. Integration is structured around two primary components:

1. **Submit disputes**
Forward chargeback or other claim details to Forter, enabling us to match each claim to the original transaction and determine the appropriate response.
2. **Provide evidence upon Request**
When Forter recommends disputing a chargeback, merchants are asked to submit supporting documentation to build a compelling case for representment.

# Integration Workflow at a Glance

## Initial Setup

To enable chargeback recovery, merchants must:

- **Forward claims to Forter**
Using one of the supported methods (webhook, API, S3, or third-party integration).
- **Establish processor access**
So Forter can submit representments on your behalf when applicable.
- **Provide available evidence types**
Types of post-purchase evidence your business can provide in response to chargebacks (e.g., proof of delivery, customer correspondence, etc.).
- **Upload static evidence**
General pieces of evidence reused across all your disputes (e.g., logo, purchase flow, terms and conditions).
- **Select business policies**
Proving Forter your business strategy so we can tailor our recommendations and dispute flows to your business needs. (e.g., dollar amount thresholds, evidence you can provide, level of automation)

## Handling Individual Claims

Once initial set up is complete, and when Forter determines that a chargeback should be disputed, we’ll request additional evidence from you. We will notify you by either:

- **Portal Flag**: In the portal, in the Chargeback Recovery tab, it will show you what evidence is missing per chargeback and request you upload it.
- **Request for evidence webhook**: Technical integration required; Forter notifies you of the evidence needed via webhook, and you can reply back with our Evidence APIs.

When a specific claim requires additional evidence, merchants can respond in one of the following ways:

- **Via Forter Portal**
Manually upload documents directly to the relevant claim.
- **Via S3 + Evidence API**
Upload evidence files to your S3 bucket and notify Forter through the Evidence API.
